Day 2 in Korea~ Feb. 13th

Last night was our first night to sleep in Korea. I thought I would sleep well since we were all so tired from a busy sight seeing day and lots of travel before that. I laid in bed after dinner thinking, "I will get up in a minute and get ready for bed." Next I thought, "I am just going to close my eyes for a minute." I woke up after 1:00 a.m. to find myself still wearing my coat and clothes from the day. I decided I had been in them this long, why bother changing now so I went back to bed. I tossed and turned, but I was determined to go back to sleep. If you read my last post, you know John had some pillow issues, but we made it through night one! :) We got up this morning and just took our time. We went down to breakfast and enjoyed a lot of yummy (american style) food. We then came back up and I blogged and got on facebook while mom and John decided what we would do for the day. We decided that we would walk to a nearby palace. It is the oldest dynasty palace here in Korea! On our way, we saw someone moving into an apartment. We decided that this is the way to move in somewhere! Take a look!

See the truck with all the stuff on it?

Here is the belongings from the truck put on a lift taken to the top of the building. CRAZY!!!!!

Anyway, back to the palace.....We walked in at the right time.....here is a short clip of what we saw:

We continued to venture through the palace and found the zodiac calendar. It was really neat.

Olivia was born the year of the ox.

Of course I was born the year of the pig. How nice! Annelyn, so were you!!!! Just like YaYa!!!

John was born the year of the dragon (he does blow a lot of smoke--completely joking! :))

Dad was born the year of the rooster (funny since he has always called mom an old crow)

Mom was born the year of the tiger.

Last, but not least....Les., you were born the year of the horse--just pretend you are standing with it! :)

After we played around here, we went in the National Folk Museum of Korea. It was a really neat museum! It had explained a lot of different customs and traditions. There were a couple of sections discussing the Dol (the 1st birthday). It made me so happy to see that my Dol towers were very similar to theirs!
Once we left the museum, we headed over to Kybo. This is suppose to be one of the largest book stores in the world! I have no clue how anyone ever buys a book becaue it was extremely crowded in there!
We then grabbed a taxi and headed to Lotte Mart. This is like a target, walmart and Kroger all in one! Holy cow it was busy! I needed a new flat iron though since mine was sacrificed this morning in trying to figure out the converter before plugging in computers. Who knew you could buy birds, comforters, eggs, clothes, and electronics in the same store!?!?!? Trust me, there was much more than just what was mentioned! To end our day, we ate at good ole KFC for dinner and then got some ice cream. We came back to our hotel so I could wrap my gifts that I will be taking tomorrow morning when we meet Olivia. I am not sure that has sunk in....I am meeting her in just a few hours!!!!!!!!!!!! I am off to bed. Next post will have the much awaited for pictures!!!!

Again, thank you to all who are keeping up with us. We appreciate your prayers, excitement in our journey, love and encouragement!

  2. I don't think you will sleep at all tonight for excitement. I can't wait for your tomorrow. It explains a lot that you and Annelyn were both born in the year of the pig. It looks like a great day. I can't wait to hear more about it. Love you.
